About

This blog will be used as a scrapbook/journal to track what I hope will be a successful, loving, and healthy companionship with my umbrella cockatoo, Cosmo. I will try my best to make daily posts describing my interactions with him and his progress as he matures from a seven month-old baby bird into what I hope will be a healthy, well-socialized adult bird. I have done hours upon hours of research on umbrella cockatoos, and whether that time pays off or not, Cosmo will have a forever home with me.

A huge thanks to Steftron, my epic big sister, for taking me to see Cosmo in the first place and helping me start the long journey that is living with an umbrella cockatoo.

Another huge thanks to my parents for supporting me, both financially and in morale, as I saved up for and studied umbrella cockatoos. Thanks for letting me visit Birds Unlimited to meet the baby cockatoos.

And finally, thank you to all responsible and knowledgeable cockatoo owners on MyToos and other websites who aid people in learning how to meet the needs and wants of this amazing animal.

26 January 13

Taken today on Saturday, January 26th, 2013, at around 10:50 AM. It feels like it’s about 70 degrees out here (again, the Louisiana weather) and a bit humid, so I figured today would be a good day to sit outside with Cosmo.

Taken on Friday, December 21st, 2012, at 6:40 PM. The world hasn’t ended yet and doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon, so I decided to make some birdie bread. Currently in the process of grinding up kale, dandelion greens, romaine lettuce, green beans, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumber, and carrots into a paste.
The immediate area around the food processor smells like a bag of yard work.

Taken today on Saturday, December 15th, 2012, at 1:45 PM. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s about seventy-five degrees right now. A pretty normal occurrence in Louisiana during December. Since it was warm, I decided to bring him out for some sun. Cosmo’s watching the birds flying by and mumbling to himself.
